Burring the Truth

Author's Note: This is my prediction piece about the 3:15 story we read. It is about the boy who stole the golden hook. I took out the last part of the story and made it my own.

I predict that Cody will go home and melt the hook, so he does not get accused for killing Mr. Bucanner. I think that once the gold is fully melted he will leave town and sell the gold for more money. But Mr. Bucanner will come back to haunt him because before he took his last breathe his said “Boy, bury my treasures with me,” and Cody did the opposite. I believe this because it is similar to Pirates in the Caribbean when they stole the treasure and haunted them.

My prediction was somewhat correct because Mr. Bucanner did come back to haunt Cody, but not over the years it was right then he was melting the gold cook. Other than that my prediction was correct because he still did come back to haunt Cody.

Throughout the years that passed Cody had been experiencing strange things in his life. Noises, doors opening and closing and the worst of all was on a casual Tuesday he was working in the yard and one bad cut led to the golden bar turning back into a golden hook again. Not once did he suspect it to be Mr. Bucanner. Was this his revenge?

As Cody got older he married his wife, but passed away from a tragic accident in the woods. As studies shown no one was able to figure out why he died. Since this he passed the hook to the son, the same thing happened. Sadly the son was then haunted. No one will ever know that this will continue to happen until the hook is returned very person who touched the hook will be cursed because one boy didn't bury the man with his treasure.

Miss Independent

Author’s Note: This is my Character development piece, which is about Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games and May from Secret Live of Bees. Both characters and very independent and that changes over time. Enjoy!

In the beginning of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the main character Katniss Everdeen is a very independent person. Going off for herself and having to be the leader and supporter of her family. Since the passing of her father, and her mother blanking out Katniss, has to provide for her family. But she decided to go the hard way. Only showing trust in one person. Otherwise she prefers to be solo, until one event dramatically changed her effect on people. Katniss’ main worry is Prim, her younger sister. Finding her food, water, clothes, shelter, and preparing her for one of the hardest things people in their society have to go through: The Reaping. As the female tribute is selected. “Primrose Everdeen.” Afraid as Katniss was she knew that there was only way she was ever seeing Prim again, she had to volunteer. Losing Prim was not an option, but who was going to take of her.

Since she was so independent there was no-one else from there sector that she could just choose to take care of her while she was in the games. The life or death situation made Katniss wonder who will be the one that Prim can continue to rely on. “Trust me. You are going to want to team up with people during the games!” Hearing these simple words were like scrapping your nails on a chalkboard. In one ear and out the other. Katniss must have thought Peta was crazy listening to their drunk mentor, Haymitch. Once the games began Katniss realizes the difficulty of playing alone. As more contestants die, and lack of sponsors Katniss, decides to team up with Rue from sector 11. When their plan for revenge fails she finds herself alone again. Finding Peta was her only other option. Still disappointed in her mentor. Katniss goes to the River wondering is Haymitch actually gave them true information. One lucky step gave Katniss a sigh of relief.

Although Katniss started off the book very independent, once she went into the Hunger Games she realized that you cannot go through life alone. She is very similar to May from Secret Life of Bees, because they both did not like to depend on others besides themselves. Also May is similar because she did not accept Lily and Rosaleen at first. But as both books continued, both individuals because more reliable on others. In life people don’t ever appreciate what others are willing to do for them. Even if it’s for the better it is hard for people to accept the help. Which is what Katniss and May both did until they both became very thankful for the shoulder to depend on when the time was needed. No matter who you are everyone needs a supporter in life to rely on.

Life Without Our Founding Fathers

Author’s Note: This piece was kind of difficult not knowing really how to relate to our “Founding Fathers,” because they aren’t in our time period,” but I think I finally pulled a okay piece together.

Nobody said it was easy having to run the country. Fifty-five different men trying to make the best decisions for our Nation. Some people had other options about the laws that were enforced, but over time they were settled to make America where we are today. As our wonderful country continues to grow, nobody imagines what life would be like without the Founding Fathers. Would we have the same type of government we have today? Would women not be able to vote? Would there still be slaves? These are some questions I would like to ask the Founding Fathers.

In 1607 people came to American for mainly on thing, freedom. Why wouldn’t they make a government similar to the one is Europe? Simply because they did not like it. Only having the King and Queen in charge of the whole country would be unfair because they could make any law they want. This is why we have the type of government we have today. There are different braches involved in every decision. The Expectative which is the president and vice president, the Legislative has the Senate and House of Representatives, and lastly the Judicial which has the Supreme Court. All of these branches have a big impact on the law.

These men decided that women could not vote until they cleared it in 1920. Today women are able to vote, but why would they make the rule that women couldn’t vote in the first place? Many believe that they choose to do this because men were in charge of the house, but today women do not need men to be independent and strong. “Four score and seven years ago,” Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery. African American men and women were treating differently. Why wouldn’t George Washington and the other Founding Fathers before Abe eliminated the law, that changed America forever. Martin Luther King Junior once said “ I have a dream that little white girls and little black boys can play together.” That dream can to reality. Today men and women, black or white, are treated equally.

Would any of our laws we have today be formed without our Founding Fathers? I think that even though many things were not settled they helped our country grow and continue to improve, in many different ways. Our founding Fathers play a big roll on our spectacular country.

Special Moments

Author’s Note: This is my Cause and effect piece. It was about a goal I scored, but importance of the piece is the chain of events that went into this important goal.

You only get so many chances to make your life worth wild. Missing out on these special opportunities is missing out on something that could be  important in your life. As my team was letting to many scoring chances slip right out of our hands, something needed to change. We could not put the ball in the net. While the clock was dying down, with only minutes to spare. Rushing to break the zero-zero tie. One goal was all we needed to get us into the championship. My teammate stole the ball from the other player in the midfield. She delivered a beautiful ball to me. Running towards it. Dribble. Shoot. Score! The helpless goalie tries driving to save the last hope we have. Sadly or her it was too late. Turing to my teammates as they surrounded me. It was the best feeling in the world. Victory was ours.

Without the chain of events that went into the goal, getting to the finals would have never been possible. It all started when Taylor stole the soccer ball, then for her giving me the perfect pass, continuing on the me finishing the shot. If anything else would have happened during this time, like the goalie blocking the shot, we would not have been able to call ourselves champions.

Help That Finally Came

Author's Note: This is my Conflict and Resolution piece. About African Americans who were slaves that got the help of a white and together stood up for what they believe in.

In the book The Help it is a true story about the hard times African American slaves would have to face. They were abused, even though most of these women took care of peoples’ children, cleaned, cooked, and in return they received more work around the house.  “Whites” took them for granted especially in a small town like Jackson, Mississippi.  Even though these “black maids” raised these children, only one really white female appreciated them.

Skeeter Phelan grew up only knowing one mom. Her maid Constantine was very special to her. Returning home being told she had disappeared. Skeeter wanted to do something about this situation.  She began collecting information from all of the black women.  Upon compiling her data, her mission was to bring awareness and equality between whites and blacks.  Her book was comprised of the wrongful acts of many and that the blacks truly wanted to be treated equally to whites.  Her quest for equality has been enforced throughout the United States.

Thriller Night

Author’s Note: This is my Personal Narrative about when my friends through me a surprise party and we went to a haunted house. Let me know if I have too much detail included in it

“SURPRISE!” The awaking sound my friends made as I hit the bottom of the stairs, jumping back as my heart skipped multiple beats.  After being told we were then going to a haunted house I knew, this was not the only thing that was going to frighten me tonight.

As the chills entered my body as I walked into the new room, I was not sure what was coming up next. I wanted my eyes to be closed but the urge to see where I was, was what I really needed to know.  As soon as I got the courage to open my eyes to see where we were, there was nothing to see.  A big gust of cold air and smoke filled the room and my eyes. Making everything very hard to see through the big mob of blur. Once the smoke cleared, a tall “zombie” stood right in my face. His eyes stared straight into mine. He quickly had us approach a wall with two different sides. Someone yelled “Boys on the right and girls on the left!” I did not want go in the walkway alone. My blood pressure rose as I ran through the pitch-black tunnel. I was in a horror movie that would never end.

Just when I thought the worst part was over we entered a room with various doors, but the problem was there was only one way out. As the bright room spun in circles a clown popped out of nowhere.  His pure evil laugh echoed around the small room. The two boys in my group searched for the right door out.  The goal was to get us out as soon as possible, but it seemed like there was no right door to go into.  Preparing to give up the clown looked at us then the door. We rushed to it and off we went continuing on to the next room.

With many more rooms and obstacles yet to go through, we finally got to the end of the Haunted High. Well at least we thought it was.  Walking outside on the path leading to the parking lot, it was very dark and quiet. Right as I got a very unusual feeling a loud chainsaw sacred us as we booked-it out of there.  Unfortunately my friend lost her shoe while we high-tailed it out of the dark alley. The chainsaw man must have realized that we were coming back so he pulled it again. Grabbing the shoe and running away panicked for the second time of the night.

Screaming and running was not our favorite combination. Out of breathe we meet up with the other groups and shared our worst and best times. Passing the 2011-2012 class of Haunted High was quiet rewarding and showed the amount of bravery we all contributed on our journey through the scariest school year that we will ever face.

Key to Success

Author’s Note: Most athletes like to skip the practice and go straight to the games. But  what they don’t realize is how important they actually are. Learning the basics is the key to success in anything you do.

Basketball is more than just a sport to our team. We put 100% into everything; games, practice and scrimmages. We are 10 girls, 3 coaches, together we are an unstoppable force as through the years our team has progressed through team development, our coaching staff, and learning the fundamentals of this spectacular game.

On and off the court we are a team. Most importantly, teamwork to means to me that we will work together, learn together and be successful together.  No matter what the situation , we work together. Our success over the three seasons comes from the tremendous amount teamwork. Over the three years we have played on the Pewaukee Basketball Club team we have won 118 games and lost 16.

Our accomplishment would not be a reality without our coaches commitment and knowledge level of this game. They have helped up realize the respect to have for our teammates, ourselves, and them. They have a thorough knowledge of the game and have shown us the fundamentals.  Our skills have improved also through these fundamentals and they have shown us the next levels of the game.

The fundamentals that our coaches have taught us has helped us grow from both as an individual and team standpoint. Ever since the first practice we have worked on how to pass the ball with our thumbs down, dribble with our head up, shoot the ball with our elbow in, stay low or defense,  and pivot, so we don’t travel. All of these things have helped our team be so successful and help us continue to improve on our skills.

In all of the years we played together I would have never guessed that these simple but very important tasks would be the key to our victory.  Knowing that in the beginning it was so difficult, to now we know the basics and are working to keep the knowledge we have and progress our skills with the help of our coaches and everyone supporting us, it is much easier to be where we are today.

3 facts and 1 Fiction

Author’s Note: Everyone in the class wrote down 3 facts about yourself and 1 fiction thing. My statement was " I went two New York." Do you think I went to New york. Comment and Let me know what you think.

New York. New York. The most wonderful place to be. At the age of 7 my family and I went and visited New York City. We saw a the play Wicked, the statue of Liberty, Central Park and Niagara Falls. Going to New york was one of the best trips I have ever been on. There were so many fun things to do. The only downfall was when the night came I started to get scared, there were a lot of people on the streets. I would always run to the front and grab my dad’s hand so I could feel protected. The city lights shined upon us as we walk through the park. The view is is special and unique. Boom! Boom! Colorful lights appeared in the night sky. “Fireworks!” My sister cried. As I bundled up in the blanket, the joy inside began rise. This was a amazing;one of the best feeling in the world. As days passed I gradually got used to all of the loud noise along the streets. Bands playing on every corner, little shops and stores, restaurants, lined up one by one all the way down Time Square. Taxis out of control, stray animals stealing food. It all happens in New York. My favorite memory on the trip was the Statue of Liberty. Riding all the way to the top,  overlooking the beautiful city. At first I was a little nervous going 305 feet and 6 inches stories high. But it was all worth it. The view was spectacular. Leaving The Big Apple was sad, because of all the good memories and fun we had as a family, but coming home was great too......But now the real question is; Did my family and I really go the New York City?

Hero or Villain

Author’s Note: Hero v.s. Villain? Which are you? Our group decided to write about a superhero power we would want to have. Out of the many possibilities I think I choose the best. Hope you enjoy!

Everyone has that time in their life where they run around the room with their red cape on pretending to be Superman. As you are flying through the air; fighting the villains and saving the world with special powers to protect everything and everyone.  Combining all of those super powers into one would make someone quite the superhero.  A crusader, who is a major threat, that no one from the dark side ever wants to meet.  Able to fly at mach speeds, massive strength, the ability to re-size, quickness to escape any villains attack, and more. I want these super powers to protect helpless victims under attack from the evil powers.  My abilities to prevent crimes and keep peace and order, would make me an UNSTOPPABLE force.

Past~Present~Future

 Yesterday is History
Tomorrow is a Mystery
Today is a gift
That's why its called the
Present

Author’s Note: Our Group decided to pick our favorite quote and describe what it means to me. I picked this quote because it  reminds me that no matter what happens your life is still important and just keep living it and good things will happen. Enjoy!

I like this quote because it reminds me of the good and bad times in your life and no matter what happens you can just move on, forget about the past and just worry about the present and future. Things happen in life and sometimes you just have to overlook all the bad and remember the great. I love this quote because it always tells me that I may have the worst day, but tomorrow is a new day. When I first found this quote my basketball team lost in the semifinal game in state last year. We wanted to win so badly and it just didn’t happen. I was really disappointed. I found this quote and thought “this is so true. So I forgot about the loss and remembered that the season is not over, go finish it off the right way. This quote reminded me that even though bad times go on in your life, you just have to shake it off and continue on with your life, because you may think it’s the end....but its not.

The Game Never Ends

I dribble down the court
Basketball is my favorite sport
I shoot
I score
Let’s play some more
The sidelines rout
As I hear a tute
Running down the floor
we score some more
Playing hard core
D-fence is no problem
As we wear our emblem
We will never lose
Until our days are due

Alaska DBQ Essay

Author's Note: Drilling for oil in America's Wildlife is a big issue when the the government does not know whether or not to continue the beauty or take up space. This essay was a little harder to write knowing it was a grade for two classes.

Over many years America has been questioning if we should drill for oil in the great outdoors of Alaska. The government has many reasons for why and why not to drill over the 1.5 million acre stretch along the shore where the oil is known to be. The Inupiat Eskimo people have watched this oil and gas develop. They know that this development can affect many animals, natural resources and overpower some of their lives. Since this I think that the government should not drill for oil until a later time when it is needed.

America has been known for many dreadful oil spills like the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 where 4.9 million barrels were released out into the open water says Deepwater Horizon oil spill. If another one of these crises’ would happen similar to the oil spill 2006 where 267,000 gallons of oil was spilled over 1.9 million acres of the Prudhoe Bay. According to the article Prudhoe Bay oil spill to clean this mess up it would roughly cost 100 million dollars. To drill oil itself with or without machines, it is a lot of money already and to have to use even more money to stop the oil from spreading it would be a bigger loss of money than it already is. In this case why not wait until America really needs the oil. The United States could use this money for many other things, like shelters, education or other important needs that we need for our country.

People think that not many people live in Alaska because of the weather changes along with many other reasons, but I would beg to differ.Numerous people and animals live in this colorful scenery. Many animals like polar bears, grizzlies, Arctic wolves, caribou and the endangered shaggy musk ox, along with several more would lose their habit; some might even get split up from their groups. This sanctuary is so important for the animals because they all have their young on this place known as the “Birthing ground.” Therefore different parts of the wilderness would then be missing.

Despite the fact that drilling for the oil could be a problem for the animals, it could also affect humans as well. The development can take place on the private and public lands inside of the Coastal Plain. Which means buildings, roads, houses, ect could possibly be torn down. Not only will citizens of the area disagree, many people would not like the fact that they might have to move. In this case there would be no way the government could per sew with the drilling

Mother Nature is never to be touched and I feel that drilling for oil would be the wrong thing to do, because of the various animals living there, and for people to live right in the area too. The risk of a spill could be bad financially. Overall the government should not drill for oil in Alaska, and secure the oil until it is needed.

Popularity Test

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Going from being the outcast to the well known girl is pretty cool for Jessie Lou. She used to be the loner in the corner and having no one really being her friend she got to know the old soccer star. As he develops feelings for her, things start to heat up.

Being left out is something most kids never want. Changing your ways, how you look, your friends, is all of this really necessary for being popular? Popularity doesn't mean everything. Author of Deep Down Popular Phoebe Stone has written a life lesson story that explains how a loner in the corner like Jessie Lou, becomes best friends with the old super-star athlete.

Conrad Smith was the best soccer player in the grade until he hurts his leg and cannot play again or keep up with his friends. Being opposite of many people it seemed that Conrad would not like the fact that someone so popular like him wouldn’t need assistance from someone like Jessie. Someone that he has never had a thought about. But because of Jessie Lou he was able to get to school and back. Without her it would be hard for him to walk on an injured foot and carry his school supplies at the same time. She become a extraordinary friend to him and couldn’t have help more than she did.

Everyone belongs with that special person, it shouldn’t matter if you have a lot of friends or not it, because people love you for you, not who they want you to be. Thirty percent of kids from ages ten to fifteen realize that their friendships don’t work out because they were not alike. Yes, most people find other groups of friends like them but, some might feel left out and be like Jessie Lou. However once you find that unique friend they are always a keeper.

Conrad, is Jessie’s keeper. Even though Conrad is back to his old popular self. She is lost without him. I would go crazy if I was Jessie. Not talking to the one you cannot stop thinking about. Without out talking for days randomly Conrad, asked her to their dance. She was shocked along with me. I would have never guessed after finally being so popular again he would have taken her with all of the other girls surrounding him. She finally got her dream fairytale.

After being the outcast at school and getting to know the real Conrad Smith, Jessie's dreams came true. She is finally happy. While learning some pretty important lessons on the way, Phoebe Stone has included many cute parts explaining how two opposites can attract without changing your ways.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Death is scary, but being welcomed to Heaven by singing angles meeting people you would have never known, you think of entering this wonderful place in a different perspective. Todd Burpo teamed up with Lynn Vincent to publish this cause and effect book that you will never want to set down.

People don’t last a life time but Heaven always does. Colton is only four years old and has already seen and witnessed what living in God’s Kingdom is like. In this book, authors Vincent and Burpo included many moments of misery that just grab all of your attention. His family was heart broken watching there brother/son struggle after cancer scare as he thrashed around trying to fight back pain. It was as if the sun turned black and there was no life in the Burpo room. Cold, dry, and depressing, while they just hope Colton would get better.

“No daddy! Don’t make me drink it.I don’t want to it’s yuh-keee!” (33) Colton screamed at the top of his lungs, pushing the medicine further away from him.
“But, Colton you have to so you can feel better.”(33) Todd cried back.

Four months later Colton’s surgery came to thought. “Colton, do you remember the hospital and when you had your surgery? Sonja, his mom asked.”
“Yes mommy that’s where the angles sang to me.”(60) Confused as they were Todd and Sonja keep asking Colton questions. They didn’t know whether or not Colton was telling the truth. “Is this the only thing that happened? Where were you?” Todd asked.

“No. Colton replied. “I sat in a very nice, tall man’s lap while I was in this colorful, magical, peaceful place. Oh and the man had powers with wings.” (70) Taking in all this new information Todd and Sonja decided to drop the topic for the rest of the night. But they thought to themselves, the things he told him that night they would never forget. Without Colton, Heaven would forever be unknown, maybe even a fear to many people until death. Now numerous people know what to expect, without fright.

Colton keep feeding his parents non-stop facts about Heaven, like when he met his great grandfather and sister, the upcoming war, along with many more adventures while then. Even though he was only there for an hour on Earth, it was a lifetime on cloud nine. The long road continues for Colton and his family, hoping to end all of the misery, and illness, but keeping the pleasure and wonderful stories in their mind forever.

Song Lyrics -God Bless the Broken Road

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I like this song and lyrics because it is about finding love and that no matter what never give up on it.

I set out on a narrow way, many years ago ------- Started searching for love
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road -------That he gave up but is trying again
But I got lost a time or two -----He had bad relationships
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through -----He never gave up on love
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you ----- never knew he was perfect with you
Every long lost dream led me to where you are ----- He dreamed about her but never meet
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars -------They lead them to his perfect girl
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms ------ Once they meet he realized they were signs her
This much I know is true-----He really likes her
That God blessed the broken road------Thank God that he brought him you
That led me straight to you-------He was guided to her
Yes He did-----He helped him with his love
I think about the years I spent, just passing through-------Like a book he has been going through the motions
I'd like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you-----That since they didn’t meet right away he wants to give her the time the weren’t and give it back
But you just smile and take my hand-----He loves him no matter what
You've been there, you understand----She has gone through the same thing and she knows what he is dealing with
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true----That something better is going to come out of this
Every long lost dream led me to where you are---- He dreamed about her but never meet
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars-------They lead them to his perfect girl
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms----- Once they meet he realized they were signs her
This much I know is true------He really likes her
That God blessed the broken road---Thank God that he brought him you
That led me straight to you-------He was guided to her
Yes He did---- He helped him with his love
That led me straight to you----He was guided right to her
But now I'm just rolling home into my lover's arms----He found his place and is relaxed about his relationship
This much I know is true---- He really like her
That God blessed the broken road---- Thank God that he brought him you
That led me straight to you-------He was guided to her
That God blessed the broken road---Thank God that he brought him you
That led me straight to you-----He was guided to her

Succeeding your drems

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Quotes each have a different and my favorite quotes is this one because it tells you that in life if you want something it's not going to come easy and that you have to work hard for it. I like to relate this quote to my basketball and soccer play.

"Winning means you're willing to go longer, work harder, and give more than anyone else.”
                                                            ~ Vince Lombardi ~

Being a Champion is different from coming in second place. That’s why I like this quote. It tells the true meaning of working at something that you truly want and willing to take risks to become a good athlete. Every time I think about this it reminds me of my own goals and what I need to do to succeed them. I love this quote because it makes you want to work harder than anyone else to rise to your full expiation's. Always try your hardest.

The Adventures of a Visa Card

AUTHOR'S NOTE: All I want is for someone to ask me about my life or how I am feeling but it never happens. Even the other cards don't talk to me. Sooner or later I hope I get some respect.

People don’t know anything about me and the always say nothing besides a human has feelings well I beg to differ. I for one am way more than that. I’m something everyone uses. People love me when they get me for gifts. You can use us just about anywhere but me I from the mall so you can only use me there. Do you know what I am?

The whole process is long and hard for us visa cards. We have to go through a machine that takes our circle plastic piece and cuts it to the perfect size. That is our birth as humans would say, except our birth hurts when the knife cuts us down to a normal box size. Next we travel through brushes that clean us making sure we are all god to go to the numbering station this is the most painful part of it all. Every person has a different finger print well that what numbering is. The big fat monster puts all these marking upon our bodies. I hate them I feel all gangster with the tattoos. We all have different ones. My numbers are 374329074662225. Once the monster is done with the torture we move onto the mailing room. We each get a special wrapping then get packed into different boxes depending on where you are supposed to end up. My friend and I got split right away I didn’t even get a chance to know his name. I don’t even have a name. Isn’t that sad?

I finally get to my destination, my new home and I got to leave right away. It was great, besides that the person selling me put a huge 75 one me whatever that means. I went home with her and she stuck me in this dark black room.A few days later the same lady that can and picked me up started wrapping my with some colorful paper. I was so scared. Trapped and left alone until one day I felt the movement of something. I was relocating. Only upstairs when I smelt pine and sure enough the next day the paper had been opened and I could breathe again. The girl was filled with joy to see me but still never know I had feelings. Someday she will use me just like all off the others. I hope it’s soon though I can’t wait any longer to meet my next big adventure.
